Arsenal, Tottenham keen on Julian Brandt

Arsenal and Tottenham are vying for Julian Brandt, who will soon enter the final year of his contract at Borussia Dortmund.

According to Fichajes, Julian Brandt has interest from Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham. The north London duo could battle it out for the German international, who will enter the final year of his deal at Borussia Dortmund.

Some of the Premier League teams could have a significant summer transfer window. Many clubs are eying key reinforcements after the season as the race to compete for honours and places will reach another level. The spending power of the English sides makes them an attractive destination for foreign players.

Arsenal and Tottenham are looking at different ideas in the market. Spurs are still waiting on the future of Antonio Conte, and much of their transfer plans will depend on that. They have a few key requirements for their squad, including an attacking midfielder.

Spurs are keen on a player who could bring in goals and assists without disrupting their front three. Conte was keen on a player of such a profile in January but spent the entirety of the month bringing in Arnaut Danjuma and chasing Pedro Porro.

While his defensive issues seem to have eased up in recent weeks, there is still the big question of an attacking midfielder missing from his team. They remain linked with James Maddison in the summer. Considering the Leicester City star’s cost, there are other cheaper alternatives.

One of the names would be Julian Brandt. The Borussia Dortmund star will enter the final year of his contract, meaning he could become available for a low price in the summer. So far, there are no indications he would stay beyond his current tenure or sign a new deal.

Meanwhile, there is also reported interest from Arsenal in the 26-year-old Bundesliga star. Mikel Arteta has plenty of attacking midfielders in his ranks, but the Spaniard wants to add more quality and variety to his options.

Granit Xhaka, Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira have played the attacking midfield role. Arteta may look at another additional option. There is no indication this new player would replace an existing one, as the Gunners are set to offer Xhaka a new deal.

Arsenal’s priority would still be a central midfielder, with Declan Rice on their shortlist of targets. Knowing a player in the No.6 position in the current market would cost a lot, Arteta might only see the attacking midfield addition as a luxury.

Hence, they remain linked with cheap deals for experienced players like Marco Asensio. Any move for Brandt will only materialise if the acquisition cost is less. Arsenal may also prioritise a wide attacker, thus putting the other roles on the back burner.

Brandt could become a solid addition for either north London side. Tottenham, in particular, need a player of Brandt’s profile. Considering he could sign with another club on the cheap, the deal makes plenty of sense from all angles. Yet, the lure of Arsenal could prove problematic for Spurs.
