Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.
Naby Keita will be a free agent in the summer. And a report from Sport Bild claims that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are looking to secure the services of the struggling Liverpool midfielder on a free transfer.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder is thought to be keen on returning to the Bundesliga. And the opportunity to return to his former club could prove to be an attractive option for the 27-year-old.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are expected to lose Jude Bellingham at the end of the season. And they want the 27-year-old Liverpool midfielder to replace the England international. Liverpool are keen on signing Bellingham from Dortmund. And it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can work out a deal that benefits them both.
Keita joined Liverpool back in 2018 for a fee of around £52.7 million. But the transfer has not worked out for either party. The Guinea midfielder’s career at Anfield has been plagued with injuries and he has not been able to contribute significantly.
The 27-year-old was expected to develop into one of the best midfielders in the world when he moved to Liverpool. But he has not progressed as expected. A return to the Bundesliga could be ideal for him. Regular football in Germany could help him regain his form and confidence.
Keita played his best football in Germany with RB Leipzig. And the Bundesliga club wanted to sign the player in January following an injury to Dani Olmo. However, the report from Sport Bild claims that Klopp blocked the midfielder’s exit midway through the season. Nonetheless, Keita will leave Liverpool, who will suffer massive losses on their £52.7 million investment, as a free agent in the summer.
There have been rumours of a potential contract extension. But the two parties have failed to reach an agreement so far. Keita has the potential to be a key player for both German clubs if he manages to get over his fitness issues. Apart from being an excellent passer, the Guinean midfielder is tactically intelligent and he is very good at driving the team forward with his dribbling ability and close control.
