La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, whose market value is €75 million.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mason Mount is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on his contract situation at Chelsea. And they will launch the offensive for the English midfielder if they fail to sign Jude Bellingham in the summer transfer window.
Mason Mount has been a talismanic figure for Chelsea since returning from a loan spell with Derby County. The 24-year-old took little time to establish a foothold at Chelsea in the 2019/20 season. And he has been a regular for the Blues through a couple of managerial changes. At the same time, he has risen in stature on the international stage.
But he has endured a difficult 2022/23 season thus far, with his form nosediving. Mount has only three goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. In addition, the player’s contract situation has left Chelsea in a spot of bother, with talks not progressing well. Such a development has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will lay down the succession plan for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the coming weeks and months. With the ageing midfielders approaching the end of their respective careers, the Merengues need to identify their successors. And Jude Bellingham has emerged as a top target for Real Madrid.
Recent reports have suggested that the English international is leaning towards joining Real Madrid. But with Liverpool, Manchester City, and a few other Premier League clubs interested, Los Blancos will also need to have a contingency plan. Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount has thus emerged as a viable alternative.
The 24-year-old has a market value of €75 million. And with his Chelsea contract expiring in a little over a year, he should be more affordable than Bellingham. Meanwhile, in light of Mount’s latest wage demands, contract renewal talks have stalled. So Real Madrid will have the opportunity to launch the offensive for him.
Mount also has several Premier League bigwigs, including Manchester United, tailing him. But Chelsea will unlikely strengthen a rival, meaning Real Madrid should be in the pole position. However, a move will only see the light of day if Bellingham does not arrive at the Bernabeu this summer.
