Everton want Renan Lodi

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Renan Lodi next season and could open talks with Atletico Madrid over a move.

According to Fichajes, Everton could enquire about signing Renan Lodi from Atletico Madrid next summer. The Toffees are interested in the Brazilian. Sean Dyche will likely make a move if they avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Renan Lodi was a surprise signing for Nottingham Forest last summer when they got him on a loan deal. The left-back’s decision to join Steve Cooper’s side raised plenty of eyebrows, given many other high-profile teams were previously interested.

The 24-year-old defender may have understood he was out of Diego Simeone’s plans. He may have wanted to accumulate regular playing time. Initially, he may have thought about impressing in the Premier League and then convincing the Atletico boss to use him next season.

However, Atletico consider him a sellable asset next summer as they look to recoup funds through player transfers. They might demand at least €22 million for the 24-year-old defender if Premier League clubs show an interest in signing him.

There are doubts about whether Nottingham will take up the option to purchase him outright. Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for the 24-year-old defender if Forest opt out. Sean Dyche wants to reinforce the defence if they manage to avoid relegation.

Lodi’s international calibre and the fact that he played consistently under Simeone are big ticks for Dyche to consider. They could open talks with Atletico to understand the finances involved in any potential deal for the left-back. Apart from that, the manager also wants to reinforce the attack sufficiently.

Everton could focus on bringing attacking talents in the summer on priority. They are already linked with experienced stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, among others. Going back to the Lodi links, Atletico would open the doors for sale, but the player might anticipate further interest from the English sides.

Lodi has a long career ahead of him, and the current season will help him adapt to English football. Other clubs could be eager to sign him if he proves successful in keeping Forest out of the relegation battle. He will focus on Steve Cooper’s side for the remainder of the campaign. Everton could become a good destination for him personally.
