James Maddison ready to leave Leicester City

26-year-old attacking midfielder James Maddison is all set to leave Leicester City in the summer amidst interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.

According to a report by Football Insider, James Maddison is all set to leave Leicester City in the summer. Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are interested in his services. They are looking to strengthen their squads and will love to have the English international at their club.

The 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. The Foxes are keen on extending his contract but are unlikely to strike a deal with the player. Maddison wants to leave and is looking for a bigger challenge. The English international wants to play for a UEFA Champions League club.

Maddison joined the Foxes from Norwich back in the summer of 2018. He has gone from strength to strength at the King Power Stadium. The former Norwich playmaker is a regular for Leicester. He signed a contract extension at the club back in 2020 on the back of impressive performances.

As per the report, he does not want to sign another extension and is looking for a way out. With his contract set to expire in 15 months, and the Foxes might look to sell him in the summer. Leicester might be willing to let go of their star player for a fee of around £60-70 million.

The 26-year-old has featured in 19 matches in the ongoing season and has 14 goal contributions. It has been another impressive season for the English international, and the interest from elsewhere is understandable. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in landing the star. They are willing to pay the big bucks to add him to their ranks.

The Magpies are pushing for a Champions League spot in the ongoing season. And, they are expected to challenge for the Premier League title in the next season given their financial capabilities. The addition of Maddison will surely help Newcastle’s cause.

However, they are not the only ones in the race. Spurs who are battling it out with them for a UCL spot are also interested in his services. Antonio Conte is a big admirer of the player and would love to have him at his disposal.

Tottenham are also expected to push for titles next season. And, signing a creative midfielder who can supply the likes of Harry Kane and Richarlison can surely have a huge impact. It is going to be an interesting transfer tussle between two Premier League clubs. And, it might boil down to who has Champions League football for next season.
