Newcastle United have joined the chase for Max Kilman as Eddie Howe looks at several options to shore up his central defence.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on Max Kilman, with Eddie Howe eyeing up a central defensive signing in the summer. The Wolves star continues to attract plenty of attention from top-six clubs after consistent displays this season.

Eddie Howe will continue to evaluate his squad ahead of the summer and look to make essential additions from the market. Since Newcastle United are the favourites to qualify for one of the European competitions next season, the manager will want a squad to compete across many fronts.

They would certainly want to play in the Champions League and could still finish fourth this season. Currently, Newcastle United sit in fifth, only a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand. While they will battle it out with the north Londoners for a European position, the two sides could also compete for a player.

Max Kilman is the player in conversation about a move to either side. Tottenham wants the central defender next summer as they remain keen to bolster their defence. Irrespective of whether Antonio Conte stays or departs, Spurs have shortages in the area.

Newcastle United have now joined them in the hunt for the 25-year-old Premier League defender. Kilman still has two years to run on his deal, meaning Wolves would demand a significant sum from suitors, especially if the interested party are the Magpies.

Howe wants a new centre-back to complement Fabian Schar and Sven Botman. While the duo have kept their fitness levels intact, they are also the best defensive team in the Premier League, conceding only 15 times. For context, Arsenal and Chelsea sit joint-second after allowing 23 goals this season.

Newcastle are also linked with Tiago Djalo of Lille, with Howe considering reuniting him with Botman. However, Kilman’s experience in the Premier League could weigh in heavily when deciding on a new defender. The 25-year-old star will prove a good addition to their squad.

A good finish to the season will go a long way in attracting top talents in the summer. Champions League qualifications would certainly become their priority, but additions like Kilman will be seen as imperative by Howe for next season.
