La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Christian Pulisic amid his struggles at Chelsea.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Christian Pulisic has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the struggling Chelsea forward.
Christian Pulisic joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth €64 million four years ago. But he has blown hot and cold since arriving at Stamford Bridge in July 2019. A highly-rated attacker following his stint with Borussia Dortmund, the 24-year-old was supposed to be Eden Hazard’s successor.
But the USMNT international has failed to stamp his authority, with fitness issues also plaguing him. The player has managed only 799 minutes of game time thus far this season, securing a paltry tally of one goal and two assists in 21 appearances. But Pulisic’s stock remains high, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid will likely enter the market for a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. That is because Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Hazard has flopped since arriving from Chelsea, Asensio has entered the final months of his deal.
With at least one player likely to leave, the Merengues will likely dip their toes in the market. And several players, including Alejandro Garnacho, have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. And Pulisic is also a viable target, despite his recent struggles at Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Blues are ready to cash in on him.
The 24-year-old showed his quality during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, making his mark for the USMNT. But it will not be surprising to see Real Madrid being wary after the last deal with Chelsea. Nonetheless, it looks like the reigning La Liga champions are mulling over making a move in the coming months.
Pulisic’s market value has plummeted considerably. So Chelsea will unlikely recoup anything close to the €64 million they paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund. And it will be interesting to see how much Real Madrid will offer for the struggling attacker. Meanwhile, he is also attracting interest from Serie A clubs, including Juventus.
