Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the potential summer transfer of 22-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom.
According to Calciomercatoweb, Newcastle United are now interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Jesper Lindstrom, who is also being courted by reigning Serie A champions AC Milan. The Dane is already a regular for both club and country and is attracting the interest of other clubs around Europe.
Eintracht Frankfurt brought the 22-year-old from Brondby for a measly €7 million back in 2021, and their gamble already seems to be paying dividend. The Danish international has become a fan favourite at the Bundesliga club, playing a pivotal role in their Europa League triumph last year before scoring the club’s first-ever goal in the Champions League earlier this season.
Lindstrom has enjoyed a productive 2022/23 campaign as of yet, netting seven times in the Bundesliga as well as laying on four assists in 20 German top-flight outings.
His consistency is not going unnoticed across the continent, with recent reports suggesting that Arsenal are plotting a summer swoop for the Dane. Now, top-four hopefuls Newcastle United have entered the race to secure the 22-year-old’s signature.
Lindstrom fits the profile of the type of players Eddie Howe prefers to work with as the Toon manager seeks to reduce the average age of the Newcastle squad in upcoming transfer windows. The 22-year-old looks like a promising talent capable of playing in a variety of attacking positions, whether centrally or out wide.
Howe prefers to develop up-and-coming, hungry stars rather than use experienced players who are starting to decline. That was evident when he offloaded Chris Wood in the January transfer window and brought in Anthony Gordon as a replacement. Lindstrom is fairly unproven, given he has only been playing in a top league for a short period. But that won’t deter a progressive manager like Howe.
If the Magpies’ boss can get hold of Lindstrom at a young age and develop him into a player who can suit his high-intensity system, coupled with the talent and high ceiling he already has, it could be an exciting prospect for Newcastle.
Still, this won’t necessarily be an easy deal for Newcastle to get over the line in the summer. Lindstrom has a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2026. So there is little pressure to sell for anything other than a lucrative bid amid heavy outside interest in their prized asset.
