La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, whose price tag is €60 million.
According to a report by Calciomercatoweb, Alessandro Bastoni is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the Italian international as a replacement for David Alaba. Meanwhile, Inter Milan will demand €60 million to part ways with the player.
Alessandro Bastoni has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Atalanta. The 23-year-old took a couple of years to establish a foothold at San Siro. But he benefitted from playing in Antonio Conte’s before playing a pivotal role in Inter’s title triumph two years ago.
The Italian international has also become a regular for his national side and played his part as they won UEFA Euro 2020. Meanwhile, Bastoni has featured prominently for Inter this season, chipping in with five assists in 26 appearances. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid might need to invest in a centre-back for a fourth successive summer transfer window. That is because Nacho is approaching the end of his contract with Los Blancos. And talks over a new contract have not progressed as well as Real Madrid would have liked. In addition, Jesus Vallejo will likely depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
More importantly, David Alaba has been struggling with fitness issues this season. And with the Austrian international on the wrong side of 30, Real Madrid will need to plan for life after him. A few centre-backs, including Cristian Romero, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. And Bastoni is also a viable target for the Merengues.
The reigning La Liga champions view Josko Gvardiol as their top target. And recent reports have claimed that they lead the race to sign the Croatian defender. But Bastoni will be a cheaper alternative to the RB Leipzig defender this season. And Inter Milan will demand around €60 million to part ways with the Italian international.
Real Madrid should be able to afford to pay €60 million to secure Bastoni’s services. And with Inter Milan struggling financially, Los Blancos can pounce on the situation. It will be interesting to see if the Italian international becomes the priority for Real Madrid instead of Gvardiol or Romero.
