Liverpool, Chelsea considering Kylian Mbappe swoop

Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in Kylian Mbappe despite the major difficulties in signing the French international.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping tabs on Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain. The Premier League duo could launch an audacious offer to lure the Frenchman. There are difficulties in signing the 27-goal superstar.

Kylian Mbappe ended massive speculation in the summer by committing to his future at Paris Saint-German. The saga dragged on until the latter stages of that window, with Real Madrid pushing very hard to secure the French international.

Mbappe reportedly wanted to sign for Real Madrid. But immense pressure from all directions in France ensured he remained in Paris. The French international signed a highly-lucrative deal with PSG until 2025. It made him the highest-earning footballer in Europe. Meanwhile, he has enjoyed a phenomenal 2022/23 campaign, scoring 27 goals across all competitions.

He had hinted at an imminent move only months after signing a new contract as his relationship with the PSG hierarchy deteriorated. While he has never spoken about the subject after that, Mbappe could take the chance and leave the club in the summer if a suitable offer arrives.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United are all interested in securing the forward. Those are possibly the only clubs who could realistically afford the massive fees he would command and the salary that suits his stature.

While it remains a dream of Manchester United’s prospective new owners, the Chelsea hierarchy are also looking to make a statement signing next summer. The Blues have spent heavily to amass some of the brightest young talents, but they still need a notable centre-forward.

Mbappe would suit the requirement. Then again, there are major stumbling blocks in signing the 27-goal French international. For one, there are big question marks on whether PSG would allow a departure. Even if they do, Real Madrid are still considered the front-runners for the attacker, who also desires a move to the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also linked with a move for the French international. A recent reveal suggested the Reds were in conversation with PSG last summer. Mbappe rejected the idea of signing for the Merseysiders.

The chances of Liverpool or Chelsea landing the superstar attacker are already slim. Additionally, their potential inability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League will kill those hopes. Mbappe would not want to play for a team outside the premier European competition, meaning only Real Madrid have a realistic chance.
