Manchester United are reportedly closing in on agreeing to a contract extension with 27-year-old defender Luke Shaw.

According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United’s contract renewal talks with the representatives of 27-year-old defender Luke Shaw are progressing well. And both parties are confident of securing an agreement.

Luke Shaw has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2024. But he is a key player for the Red Devils, and it is no surprise that Manchester United want to secure his long-term future.

Shaw has been competing with Tyrell Malacia for the starting spot as the left-back. And he has played as the centre-back as well. The 27-year-old has been an invaluable member of the first team. And he will be a key player for Manchester United going forward as well.

It makes sense for the Red Devils to tie the 27-year-old English international to a new long-term deal. Manager Erik ten Hag is looking to put together a side capable of challenging for major trophies. And he needs to hold on to players like Shaw.

The England international has established himself as an important player for club and country in recent seasons. And he is thought to be happy at Old Trafford.  The player is willing to commit his long-term future to the club after proving his worth to the Manchester United manager with a number of important performances in recent months.

The former Southampton defender’s Manchester United career was plagued with injuries in the initial years. But he seems to have gotten over those problems and is undoubtedly one of the better defenders in the Premier League right now.

Shaw’s contract was due to expire in 2023. But Manchester United activated a one-year extension clause in his deal last year. The 27-year-old’s situation had also attracted a few clubs, including Barcelona. But he is now set to sign a new contract with the Red Devils.

It seems that the Red Devils are prepared to reward the English international with a longer contract because of his impressive performances. And it remains to be seen whether the two parties can officiate an agreement in the coming months.
