Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger.

Antonio Rudiger joined Real Madrid in a Bosman move at the start of the season. But he has not been at his best, and Real Madrid could look to move the 29-year-old on according to a report from Fichajes. The player is a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham need to add more quality at the back, and Rudiger could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero. The German international played his best football in the Premier League with Chelsea. And the opportunity to return to England could be a tempting proposition for him.

Apparently, Rudiger does not feel like he is an important member of the first-team squad at Real Madrid. And it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can provide him with an exit route from the Spanish club.

The Londoners need to add more depth to their defence, and Rudiger would be an upgrade on their current options. The Real Madrid star defender is capable of playing in a back four as well as a back three. He will add some much-needed tactical versatility to the side as well.

Apart from being a quality defender, Rudiger’s aggression and mentality would be a valuable addition to the Tottenham dressing room as well. The 29-year-old is at the peak of his career, and he could settle in and make an immediate impact at Tottenham next season.

It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid are prepared to cash in on the player during the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants might not want to weaken the depth of their squad. They signed Rudiger on a free transfer, and the player has a contract with them until the summer of 2026. Real Madrid are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet.

Meanwhile, Tottenham must ensure that they finish in the top four and secure Champions League qualification if they want to attract players like Antonio Rudiger at the end of the season. Furthermore, they should look to tie down the likes of Antonio Conte and Harry Kane to new contracts.

It is highly unlikely that top players like Rudiger would want to join Tottenham if a world-class manager like Antonio Conte left in the summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months now. But Tottenham have shown interest in other centre-backs, including Fikayo Tomori.
