Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on singing 30-year-old World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez.

According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the summer. Martinez is looking to make a leap to a Champions League club and will be available for a price of around €50 million.

The 30-year-old was Argentina’s star in their World Cup triumph in Qatar a few months back. His sensational performances throughout the tournament helped La Albiceleste become world champions. Martinez feels he is ready for Champions League football and wants to make a move in the summer of 2023.

The Argentine goalkeeper joined Aston Villa back in the summer of 2020 from Arsenal. Ever since his arrival at Villa Park, he has been their undisputed number one. Martinez has put in some incredible performances over the past few years for the club.

He has made 96 appearances for Villa and has 36 clean sheets to his name. In the ongoing season, he has featured in 21 matches and has kept five clean sheets. Meanwhile, the former Arsenal shot-stopper’s contract at the Birmingham-based club ends in 2027. It will help Aston Villa be in the driver’s seat during negotiations with other parties.

New boss Unai Emery wants to add a few quality players to his squad in the summer window. And, the departure of Emiliano Martinez could fund those signings. The €50 million income could help them sign a couple of quality players.

With the 30-year-old wanting a move to a bigger club and the amount of money involved, it makes complete sense for Emery’s team to let him leave. Manchester United and Tottenham are keen on having the World Cup winner in their squad ahead of next season.

Erik ten Hag is in search of a quality goalkeeper who could challenge David de Gea for a place in the XI. He wants to strengthen the goalkeeping position which has not been that great of late. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s men are looking for Hugo Lloris’s long-term replacement. The Tottenham captain is already 36, and his performances have dropped in the past few months.

Signing the Argentine goalkeeper will add more quality to both squads. As a result, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this transfer tussle between Manchester United and Tottenham.
