Manchester United have been linked with a move for Frenkie De Jong once again.

A report from GiveMeSport claims that Manchester United retain an interest in signing the Dutch international midfielder and they could make a move for him at the end of the season if they manage to put together a substantial summer transfer budget.

If Manchester United can sort out their ownership issues, the new owners might be able to fund the big-money signing of De Jong.

The 25-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United at the start of the season and the Red Devils even agreed on a fee with Barcelona.

However, the former Ajax midfielder decided to continue at the Spanish club and he has been an important player for Barcelona this season.

There is no doubt that Manchester United need to add more quality to their midfield and the Dutchman would be a sensational acquisition for them. The 25-year-old seems like the ideal partner for Casemiro in theory and Manchester United would improve immensely if they can bring the Dutch international to partner with the Brazilian.

De Jong is capable of controlling the tempo of the game and he can drive forward with the ball as well.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old will also help out defensively and he could be the complete midfielder Manchester United are currently missing. The Barcelona star would be a major upgrade on players like Fred and Scott McTominay.

The Spanish outfit are currently going through financial limitations and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can put together a lucrative offer and tempt them into selling the player.

They will have to convince the midfielder to move to the Premier League as well.

De Jong was not sold on a move last summer and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds this time around.

The 25-year-old midfielder has worked with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag during their time together at Ajax, and the Dutch manager could play a pivotal role in convincing the Barcelona star to move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Furthermore, the Barcelona midfielder is well-versed in the Manchester United manager’s playing style and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact next season.
