Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old French defender Castello Lukeba from Lyon.

According to a report from Football Insider, Castello Lukeba has been on Manchester United’s radar for a while now. And the Red Devils have scouted the 20-year-old French defender extensively.

Lukeba has been an important first-team player for Lyon this season, and the young defender has shown that he has the potential to develop into a top-class player. He has been linked with Chelsea as well.

The youngster will be hoping to establish himself as a key player for club and country in the coming seasons. And it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can swoop in and secure his services.

The Red Devils have shown considerable improvement since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. But they will need a deeper squad to compete on all fronts next season. Manchester United will have to bring in defensive reinforcements at the end of the season, especially if they decide to cash in on some of their fringe players. Lukeba could prove to be a quality long-term investment from the Premier League giants.

The French defender has all the attributes to succeed in English football, and ten Hag could help him fulfil his tremendous potential. The Manchester United manager helped a number of young players improve during his time at Ajax, and he could have a big impact on the development of the Frenchman as well.

Lukeba has been recommended to ten Hag by one of their scouts, and the player is set to cost in excess of £30 million. Manchester United certainly have the resources to pull off the transfer, and they should look to act swiftly in order to avoid competition in the coming months.

Moving to the Premier League would be a major step up in the young defender’s career. And it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to take the leap. Lukeba needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he should look to seek assurances from the Red Devils before making a move.

Sitting on the bench at Old Trafford will not help his development. And Manchester United must be prepared to give him regular opportunities if he joins the club. For now, the Red Devils remain well-placed to seal a £30 million deal for the French defender. Meanwhile, they have also shown interest in other centre-backs, including Goncalo Inacio.
