Arsenal could open talks with Youri Tielemans over a Bosman move in the summer as the 25-year-old midfielder nears free agency.
Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Arsenal could launch a swoop for Youri Tielemans on a Bosman move. The 25-year-old midfielder’s contract will expire in the summer, with Leicester City resigned to losing the Belgian international on a free transfer in June.
The Youri Tielemans saga will conclude one way or another when the season ends. The Belgian midfielder is increasingly heading towards leaving Leicester City as a free agent, despite the Foxes doing their best to extend his contract.
Reports suggested Leicester were confident of extending his deal, but Tielemans may be ready to move on. Arsenal were in the hunt for the midfielder for quite some time. However, last summer, Edu Gaspar refused to pay what the Foxes demanded for the 25-year-old midfielder with one year left on his deal.
The Gunners could have approached again in January but decided to wait until the summer and sign him on a free transfer. Tielemans was also keen on moving to Arsenal. And Dean Jones has predicted the north Londoners will soon launch a swoop for the midfielder.
Jones said, “Ultimately, the player now has a big window of opportunity in terms of where he could land next. It’s not impossible that Arsenal now make their move for him. Arsenal were always against paying a fee for him, knowing that he could be available for free if they could get this far.”
Newcastle United are also interested in the Belgian midfielder. Hence, there is every chance the chase will turn into a battle. Arsenal and even Manchester United are likely to remain interested in Tielemans.
The prospect of signing a top-rated midfielder on a free transfer will entice a team like Arsenal. The Gunners are in the race to sign Declan Rice, who will come at a huge cost. Hence, signing Tielemans on a Bosman deal will help them focus the finances towards other top targets.
Tielemans will certainly improve this Arsenal midfield, as he could compete with Granit Xhaka for a place on the pitch. With the Gunners likely to return to UEFA Champions League action next summer, adding quality depth in every position seems imperative for Mikel Arteta.
