Rayan Cherki reportedly wants to join Real Madrid as his next club as a summer exit from Lyon beckons the 19-year-old.
According to Fichajes, Rayan Cherki is dreaming of a move to Real Madrid as a summer exit from Lyon is a possibility. The 19-year-old Ligue 1 ace wants to take a careful step in his career, with the Spanish giants reportedly interested in bringing him to La Liga.
Real Madrid set off the second galactico era by embarking on a super spending spree in 2009. That summer, Florentino Perez celebrated his reelection as the club’s president by splashing extensively on Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema.
The other duo turned out to be huge successes at the club, as they collectively helped the club win five Champions League titles, among other honours. While Ronaldo has since left the club a few years ago, Benzema remains an important player for the Madrid giants.
The Frenchman helped them win the Champions League last season and collected a maiden Ballon d’Or accolade for his exploits. As the striker enters a pivotal phase of his career, Real Madrid has started thinking about revamping the position and looking for a long-term replacement.
Players like Kylian Mbappe or Harry Kane have got mentioned previously, but Perez wants another signing in the Benzema mould. Lyon’s Rayan Cherki has emerged as a target for the Spanish giants, with the 19-year-old Ligue 1 ace set for a big career move in the summer.
Cherki has recently won praise for his rise at Lyon and continues to perform admirably for the French giants. He might have scored only three goals this season, but he has had a meaningful impact on the team.
A host of clubs are chasing his signature, including Chelsea, who remains interested. Others like Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Juventus have also shown admiration, but they may fall behind Real Madrid if the Spanish giants come to the fore.
Many sides tried to approach Lyon in January, but the French giants remained uninterested. In the summer, Madrid could return with an approach and try to broker a deal for the 19-year-old Ligue 1 ace. Cherki reportedly dreams of signing for Real Madrid and following in the footsteps of Benzema.
With the right qualities, he could become a solid future investment and rise to Benzema’s levels in the coming seasons. Cherki has a contract until 2024, but Lyon also holds the option for another year. Hence, it’s safe to assume they will command a significant fee for one of Europe’s exciting forwards.
