Barcelona retains an interest in Marcelo Brozovic and could make a summer approach for the Inter Milan star.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona are in the chase for Marcelo Brozovic in the summer. Inter Milan could decide to sell the Croatian midfielder in the next window, as they feel the time might be right to cash in when the value is high.
Marcelo Brozovic, 30, has been one of Inter Milan’s consistent performers since joining the club in 2016. he also helped the Nerazzuri win the Serie A title in 2020-21 under Antonio Conte and signed a new deal last year to extend his deal until 2026.
Injuries have disrupted his season, as he has not started a Serie A match for Inter Milan since September. Brozovic was a key part of Simone Inzaghi’s plans, but the manager has found ways to play better without him.
Inter Milan are open to selling him in the summer as they have to find smarter ways to aid their squad building. Brozovic could still fetch a decent fee in the market, with Barcelona interested in the midfielder. The 30-year-old is also a Tottenham target, as a transfer battle could ensue in the summer.
Barcelona reportedly tried to negotiate a swap deal involving Franck Kessie in January. Eventually, a move never materialised, although there are suggestions the Catalans could resurrect their chase in the summer. They might offer a similar deal to Inter Milan, which might get some consideration from the Italians.
Barcelona would have ideally wanted to sign Martin Zubimendi, but Arsenal have an edge in the chase as things stand. Moreover, the Real Sociedad star will cost a lot of money, which the Catalans do not have amid their ongoing financial crisis.
Brozovic is an experienced alternative to Zubimendi and could cost far less than the Spaniard. Moreover, if Barcelona acts smartly in negotiations, they might get a favourable deal. They will have to compete with Tottenham for the 30-year-old midfielder. Spurs are prepared to offer a player-plus cash deal involving Japhet Tanganga, as Inter may also consider this option.
Spurs are keen, and Brozovic might choose to play in the Premier League with the north Londoners if Conte stays put. If the Italian is to depart in the summer, then the midfielder might look at other appealing options as his next destination, including Barcelona.
