Premier League clubs Arsenal and Newcastle United ponder on a move for Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the summer.

According to Corriere Della Sierra via SportWitness, Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian midfielder has been on the radar of the two clubs for a while. And, his complicated contract extension situation at Lazio is seen as an opportunity by the two clubs.

Milinkovic-Savic’s current contract at Lazio ends in the summer of 2024. The next few months are very important for the Serie A club and the player. They are trying to pen down a deal but the two parties are not on the same page as of now. The release clause is creating complications and there might be a window for the Premier League clubs to enter the race for his signature.

Lazio are desperate to extend his contract but if a deal is not agreed they would want to sell him in the summer of 2023 rather than letting him leave as a free agent in the following year. Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio back in 2015 from KRC Genk.

Since his arrival in Italy, the Serbian midfielder has featured in over 300 matches for the club. He has made over 250 appearances in Serie A over the years. In the ongoing season, he has made 28 appearances for the Italian club and has been directly involved in 14 goals.

The central midfielder has a great physical presence and his defensive awareness as well as ball distribution make him stand out in the centre of the park. The interest in acquiring his services is mainly because of what he has done over the years for Lazio. And, the fact that he still has quite a few years left in him.

The 27-year-old will be a great addition to any team that manages to get his signature. As far as Arsenal are concerned, signing him adds depth to their midfield. It will allow Mikel Arteta the luxury to rotate players. It will help the Gunners challenge for every possible silverware.

Newcastle on the other hand, have already made some great signings of late and are fourth in the league. Adding him to the ranks will help them challenge for the Premier League next season. His arrival will bolster their midfield. And, the richest club will be one step closer to building a team that can achieve their big ambitions.

The key to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s situation is his contract negotiations with Lazio. If they fail to agree on a deal before the summer transfer window, we might see the Serbian midfielder move to the Premier League.
