Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton are interested in signing 28-year-old Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
According to a report by Il Mattino via SportWitness, Premier League clubs Liverpool and Everton are considering a move for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski who has the desire to feature in the English top flight. He has been on the radar of the clubs for a while and his contract situation is likely to decide his future.
Piotr Zielinski’s contract at Napoli ends in the summer of 2024. The player’s priority is to extend his contract at Napoli. But if that doesn’t go according to plan, the player would love to play in England.
He currently earns €3.5 million per year at Napoli which is a very important figure considering the fact that the president of the club wants to make changes to his wage structure. The club wants to cut down player wages to manage their finances. The Poland international is willing to take a big pay cut and settle for €2.5 million per year.
And, according to a report the Merseyside clubs Everton and Liverpool are interested in his services. But, it will all depend on whether his contract at his current club is extended or not. Piotr Zielinski joined Napoli back in the summer of 2016 from Udinese. Before he agreed on a deal with Napoli, Liverpool did push for his services. But, they failed to sign the 28-year-old.
Zielinski has featured in 309 matches for the Naples-based club. During his time at the club, he has been involved in 87 goals. He has found the back of the net on 46 occasions and has 41 assists to his name. He has been a star man for his team and has put in exceptional performances day in and day out.
In the ongoing season, the Serie A midfielder has played 28 matches. It has been another great year for the midfielder at the club. He has been directly involved in 14 goals in all competitions. But, with his contract set to expire in around 18 months’ time, his future hangs by a thread.
Liverpool are in a spot of bother in the ongoing season. They have underperformed and are currently 10th in the Premier League with 29 points out of a possible 60. It has been a poor show by the Merseyside club in the ongoing season. The majority of their concerns have been related to the midfield and if they are given an opportunity to push for Zielinski in the summer, they will be happy to take it. He won’t cost them a fortune but will surely solve a few headaches.
As far as, Everton are concerned, their future in the Premier League will decide whether or not they have a shot at signing the Polish midfielder. If they fail to survive in the English top flight, they might not stand a chance to acquire his services despite their interest in him.
