Inter Milan could consider summer move for Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino

Inter Milan are interested in signing Roberto Firmino in a Bosman deal if they cannot keep Romelu Lukaku beyond the summer.

According to Sport Witness, Roberto Firmino emerges as an option for Inter Milan in the summer. The Nerazzuri will consider signing the Liverpool star on a free transfer if they cannot keep Romelu Lukaku beyond the current season.

Inter Milan have some big decisions ahead of the summer window. The primary task for the Nerazzuri is to find a suitable replacement for PSG-bound Milan Skriniar, as his departure weakens their central defence.

Additionally, they have to decide on Romelu Lukaku’s future at the club with the Belgian’s loan deal ending in the summer. The 29-year-old returned to the San Siro on loan only a year after sealing a huge move back to Chelsea.

While he has underwhelmed this season, posting a single Serie A goal in nine appearances. Injuries disrupted his season, but Inter Milan remains confident of the striker regaining his prolific form. Lukaku wants to stay longer at the club, with the Nerazzuri set to figure out a solution with Chelsea over his future.

If they cannot find a solution with Lukaku, Inter Milan could target Roberto Firmino for a free transfer. The Brazilian fits the profile of what they need in a striker and could look to sign him. The 31-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, with many top clubs chasing his signature.

Those include Real Madrid, West Ham and even Barcelona if reports are accurate. There could also be interest from other Italian sides in the Brazilian, but his priority is to remain at Liverpool. The Reds reportedly submitted an extension offer earlier, but nothing remains agreed upon for now.

Liverpool could only offer him a short-term deal, unlike what they did with Mohamed Salah last summer. Firmino has been one of the key players under Klopp over the years, making 348 appearances across all competitions. He has posted 107 goals and 78 assists in that period, winning the Champions League and Premier League titles.

Since Liverpool have a host of forwards in their lineup, it isn’t easy to see how Firmino will play with regularity if he stays. Even at the clubs that remain interested, he may have to assume a secondary role at best. The same goes for Inter Milan, who have Lautaro Martinez as their primary striker, and that may not change.

A move away from Liverpool could also prove a good idea for Firmino to challenge himself elsewhere. He might become a good addition for Inter Milan in the short term, as they can sufficiently replace Lukaku with the Brazilian.
