Barcelona will reportedly go head-to-head with Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Sofyan Amrabat, whose price tag is €40 million.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Sofyan Amrabat is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. Los Rojiblancos will compete with Barcelona in the race to sign the Moroccan midfielder. And Serie A outfit Fiorentina will demand €40 million to part ways with the player.
Sofyan Amrabat had gone under the radar for much of his professional career, representing mid-table clubs for the most part. But a successful FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign has turned his fortunes around. And the 26-year-old has become a hot property in the market since then.
The Moroccan international was instrumental as the Atlas Lions finished fourth at the World Cup. And he has been solid for the most part this season at the club level, turning out 27 times for Fiorentina. But Amrabat’s future at the Serie A club is uncertain amid interest from clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona had been keen on signing Amrabat in the January transfer window and lodged a late bid for him. But Fiorentina rejected the proposal from the Blaugrana and did not intend to sell him. That has not stopped Barcelona from remaining interested in the 26-year-old amid Sergio Busquets’s advancing years.
The Moroccan midfielder has become the priority target for Barcelona. But shelling out the €40 million that Fiorentina will demand might be an issue for the Catalan outfit. Meanwhile, Barcelona will face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the player from the Serie A club.
Atletico Madrid will embark on a squad overhaul in the summer after two mediocre seasons. And with Saul Niguez and Thomas Lemar facing uncertain futures at the Civitas Metropolitano, they need at least one new midfielder. Amrabat is thus a viable target for Atletico Madrid. But it is unclear if Los Rojiblancos can afford to pay €40 million for him.
Other clubs are also in the equation, and Amrabat’s days at Fiorentina seem numbered. But it will be interesting to see if any suitor will meet his valuation to prise him away from Serie A. For now, Amrabat’s future remains up in the air.
