Jose Mourinho eyes a move for Liverpool outcast Naby Keita, with the 27-year-old likely to depart on a free transfer in the summer.

According to AS Roma Live via Sport Witness, Naby Keita is a target for Jose Mourinho in the summer. Liverpool may not offer a new contract to the 27-year-old Guinean midfielder, thus paving the way to move away on a free transfer once the season ends.

Liverpool’s dreadful season will have ramifications on their future, with the Reds likely to miss out on the top four next term. Moreover, the overall performances have regressed quickly, which concerns many people close to the club. Some individuals, in particular, have performed well below their usual levels.

Of the many changes expected to materialise in the summer, a few current stars will depart the club. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could leave in the summer when their contracts expire. Liverpool are not planning on offering them new deals.

Keita, in particular, cost Liverpool around £48 million, but injuries and lack of consistent form have seen his career falter at Anfield. The 27-year-old midfielder did have some promising moments during his time here. This season, he failed to deliver, especially when the club needed his talents.

Before the January window, Keita was reportedly linked with some Premier League heavyweights. Those links have died down in recent weeks and may not materialise anymore. Clubs outside of England could arrive with interest in the summer. The 27-year-old’s availability for free is likely to attract some top European clubs.

AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old star on a free transfer. Jose Mourinho wants to shore up his midfield for next season and views Keita as an economical alternative. The only stumbling block would be the midfielder’s salary, as he currently earns a reported €7.3 million per season.

The idea of getting him on a free could let Roma adjust the salary part, something they might look to negotiate with the midfielder. Keita could make do with a new challenge after a few tough seasons in England. Considering the numerous injuries and fitness issues endured by the 27-year-old, the Premier League may not suit his style.

As for Roma, it will be a good deal to sign the midfielder, particularly on a free transfer. His technical ability will help Mourinho after losing Nicolo Zaniolo to Galatasaray recently.
