Chelsea remain interested in Denzel Dumfries and want a part-exchange deal involving defender Trevoh Chalobah in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea are still interested in Denzel Dumfries and could return with an approach in the summer. In addition, the Blues could include 23-year-old defender Trevoh Chalobah in part-exchange for the Dutch right-back.
Chelsea were the biggest spender of the January transfer window by a distance. They spent upwards of €300 million on new players but also missed a few targets. Players like Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke and David Fofana arrived for big fees. Meanwhile, only Jorginho left the senior squad, but there could be more departures in the summer.
Despite their heavy spending, Chelsea have set sights on another player for the summer window. Serie A right-back Denzel Dumfries remains on their shortlist after backing away from signing the Dutchman in January. Inter Milan wanted a huge fee for the 26-year-old, which did not suit Chelsea.
Instead, they switched targets and signed Malo Gusto from Lyon. He will stay with Les Gones until the summer, after which he could compete with Reece James for a starting spot. The presence of the two right-backs makes it a difficult choice for Chelsea to return for Dumfries in the market.
The report suggests Chelsea may offer a player in part exchange with Trevoh Chalobah’s name getting a mention. The 23-year-old centre-back has played regularly this season, especially in a right-back role to cover for the injured James. Yet, with the arrival of Wesley Fofana and Badiashile in the last two windows, his game time might get affected.
Chelsea may consider him expendable in the summer, hence the suggestion about using him in a deal for Dumfries. Inter Milan were reportedly interested in Chalobah as they sought a replacement for Milan Skriniar. The PSG-bound defender remained at San Siro, but they will seek someone else in the summer.
Chelsea reportedly remain open to exchanging Chalobah plus cash for Dumfries. Other clubs are also keen on the Dutch defender, but Stamford Bridge could still prove an attractive destination. For now, any move will come under questioning, considering the Blues have already secured Gusto for next season.
