Josko Gvardiol, valued at €100 million by Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, has offered himself to La Liga champions Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid will have the chance to sign Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window. The RB Leipzig centre-back has offered himself to Los Blancos. But the reigning La Liga champions do not want to shell out €100 million to sign him from the Bundesliga club.
Josko Gvardiol has seen his stock skyrocket since joining RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in July 2021. The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in the last 18 months. At the same time, he has been a pivotal figure for Croatia, helping the Vatreni finish third at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Croatian international has turned out 70 times thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with three goals and four assists. And Gvardiol’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid bolstered the central defensive unit in the last two summer transfer windows. But Los Blancos will likely enter the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Nacho faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with talks over a new contract not progressing.
In addition, David Alaba is on the wrong side of 30, while Antonio Rudiger will turn 30 this year. So Real Madrid might look to lay down plans for a smooth transition to the next generation. And Josko Gvardiol has reportedly emerged as a top target for the reigning La Liga champions. And the 21-year-old has now offered himself to Real Madrid.
But Gvardiol’s price tag poses a problem for the Merengues, who will not break the bank to sign him. And with RB Leipzig demanding around €100 million for the Croatian international, a deal might not be on the cards. That is because Real Madrid will unlikely pay €100 million to the Bundesliga giants.
It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can reach a compromise for an acceptable sum. For now, Gvardiol remains keen on joining Real Madrid. But other prospective suitors might look to beat Los Blancos to his signature.
