Atletico Madrid rival Barcelona in N’Golo Kante pursuit

Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Chelsea veteran N’Golo Kante.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, N’Golo Kante is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. The Colchoneros have joined Barcelona in the race to sign the Chelsea veteran in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

N’Golo Kante has left a lasting legacy in the Premier League as one of the competition’s best-ever players. Barely anyone had heard his name on the English shores before his move to Leicester City. But after delivering a surprising Premier League title in his debut season, the Frenchman became a household name. And he has gone from strength to strength at Chelsea.

The 31-year-old has won nearly every trophy at the club and international levels, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The player has turned out 262 times thus far for Chelsea, chipping in with 13 goals and 15 assists. And despite Kante’s recent fitness issues, he remains a top target for several clubs, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona will unlikely spend heavily on signings in the summer transfer window. With the financial issues showing no signs of ending, the Blaugrana will also have to resort to the free-agent market. And Kante has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, who might see Sergio Busquets leave in the summer.

The Chelsea veteran is also pushing Barcelona to pursue a Bosman move at the end of the season. And his potential free-agent status makes him an attractive option for the Blaugrana. But Barcelona will face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the Chelsea midfielder.

Atletico Madrid might make sweeping changes to the first-team squad in the summer transfer window. The Colchoneros have been mired in mediocrity for two seasons and need to galvanise the squad. And with Saul Niguez and Thomas Lemar failing to impress, Kante can be a viable target for Atletico Madrid.

But Chelsea will try to tie the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner to a new contract. So Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will need to move quickly to secure a pre-contract agreement with the 31-year-old. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the French international.
