Real Madrid and Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs interested in 23-year-old Argentine striker Mateo Retegui.
According to a report by Jeunes Footeux, Mateo Retegui is becoming a popular figure in Europe. The Argentine striker has popped up on the radars of Real Madrid and Manchester United. And other bigwigs like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in him.
Mateo Retegui has been a journeyman in his short professional career thus far. The 23-year-old graduated from the Boca Juniors academy after arriving from River Plate in March 2016. But he has not established a foothold yet at Boca Juniors, instead embarking on several loan spells.
The Argentine striker is currently on loan at CA Tigre, a club he joined in February 2022. And Retegui has started the 2023 season brilliantly, scoring three goals in two appearances thus far. The youngster’s exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid and Manchester United setting their sights on him.
Real Madrid will see Endrick arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 18 months. But the Brazilian prodigy might not become a regular straight away due to the presence of Karim Benzema. In addition, Mariano Diaz faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid. And the 29-year-old will likely leave Los Blancos in the summer transfer window.
So Real Madrid will need someone to initially replace Mariano before eventually becoming Endrick’s competitor. Mateo Retegui has thus emerged as a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition from Manchester United for the 23-year-old.
Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract in November before signing Wout Weghorst on loan in January. But the Dutchman might not join Manchester United permanently in the summer. And with Anthony Martial’s never-ending fitness issues becoming a major concern, the Red Devils need to invest in multiple strikers.

So despite the interest in Victor Osimhen, Manchester United can do with another striker like Retegui. But Manchester United and Real Madrid might have to compete with Bayern Munich and PSG for the 23-year-old Argentine striker. In addition, breaking Tigre’s loan deal with Boca Juniors in the summer might be complicated. It will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming weeks.
