Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from the London club following his Champions League snub.
According to a report from Football Insider, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now emerged as a target for Everton after he was axed from Chelsea’s 25-man UEFA Champions League squad on Friday.
Apparently, the 33-year-old is disappointed with the club’s decision, and he could look to terminate his contract with the London club. Aubameyang has 18 months left on his contract with Chelsea after joining the club from Barcelona at the start of the season.
It has been a disappointing return to the Premier League for the veteran striker and he has scored just three goals for the Blues. It seems that he is no longer a key player for Chelsea and that is why the Blues decided to leave him out of their Champions League squad.
Aubameyang has also seen his market value plummet to just €12 million due to his recent struggles. It will be interesting to see if the two parties can mutually agree on a contract termination in the coming weeks.
Everton are looking to add more quality to their attack, and the €12 million-rated star could prove to be a useful option during the second half of the season. The Toffees are fighting for survival in the Premier League and need to add more goals to the side.
Aubameyang is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and he could transform Everton in the final third if he manages to regain his form and confidence. The Chelsea striker has been linked with a return to Spain and with Italian outfit AC Milan keen as well.
The opportunity to join Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or AC Milan is certainly a more attractive proposition compared to Everton. And it will be interesting to see if the Chelsea attacker decides to snub a move to Goodison Park in favour of the other European clubs.
Meanwhile, Chelsea spent a lot of money on new players during the January transfer window, and they might be keen on getting rid of some of their fringe players. The opportunity to terminate Aubameyang’s contract could be the preferred option for the Blues. And it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
