Newcastle United to reignite their pursuit of Matheus Franca in the summer

According to Sport Witness, Premier League side Newcastle United are prepared to keep up their pursuit of Flamengo star Matheus Franca in the 2023 summer transfer window.

The Magpies, spurred on by their middle east takeover and recent results are riding a wave of optimism. Not only have they made it to the final of the Carabao Cup but also stand a real chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Eddie Howe’s side have gone about rebuilding the side with patience and adding the right player at the right time. Next up on their radar is Flamengo star Matheus Franca.

The 18-year-old has been on the Magpies’ radar for a while now but they were unable to secure his services in the recently concluded January transfer window. Howe and co made three bids for the teenager in January, with the highest being worth €20m without any avail.

The Brazilian side aren’t averse to a sale but are seeking €25m for their prodigious talent. With Bayer Leverkusen also in the fray, Newcastle cannot afford to dilly-daddle and will be well advised to get the deal over the line. Whether Flemgno will provoke a bidding war or demand more once the summer comes around is debatable.

At 18, Franca still has much to learn and develop. An attacking midfielder who can also play upfront or on the left, the Brazilian can tie down the position for years to come. He can also form a Samba connection with Bruno Guimaraes who continues to impress for the Tyneside giants.

Newcastle’s success this season has been led by a stellar defence that is largely proving to be impregnable. They could do with some more inspiration upfront especially when it comes to chance creation. Whether it be Franca or anyone else, signing them would fill a key position on the roster.

An Under-20 Brazilian international, Franca is a player with immense potential. He is bound to garner attention sooner or later and the Magpies could steal an early march next summer. It could prove to be a steal of a deal in the years to come.
