Official: Jorginho completes Arsenal transfer

Jorginho has completed his £12 million transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal, becoming their third signing this January window.

Arsenal have confirmed the capture of Jorginho from Chelsea in a £12 million deal. The 31-year-old Premier League ace becomes the third senior signing for the Gunners in the January window, with Mikel Arteta particularly pleased with the Italian international’s arrival.

Arsenal always wanted a new midfielder to join the squad in the January window and have managed to bring in a quality player. Mikel Arteta will be delighted after the Gunners captured Jorginho from London rivals Chelsea in a £12 million deal.

The Gunners will reportedly pay Chelsea £10 million with the remaining in add-ons. It has been suggested part of the bonuses would come in if Arsenal win the Premier League, something that will not bother the north Londoners after a smart transfer move.

Jorginho joins on a deal until the summer of 2024 with the option of extending it by a further year. The move suits Arsenal and their plans for the future, as they are not tied to an ageing star for the long term. The £12 million fee also sounds reasonable in this current market, particularly if the player proves useful.

After the confirmation of the signing, Mikel Arteta had some good words for the new arrival.

The Arsenal boss said, “Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here. We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club.”

Arteta indeed targeted Jorginho during his first summer window after becoming Arsenal manager. After failing to convince Chelsea to sell, they signed Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian has become one of the important players this season, as Arteta wanted a viable cover for the midfield supremo.

With Jorginho, they have a solid cover and a new option in games where Arteta feels the need to change dynamics. Jorginho has won many trophies at Chelsea, including the Champions League and Club World Cup.

He also won the Euro 2020 with Italy, beating England in the Wembley Final. The 31-year-old Premier League ace will come in at the right time, representing a brilliant opportunity to help Arsenal win the Premier League title.
