Everton in talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Relegation-threatened Everton are willing to spend £15 million to sign Viktor Gyokeres from EFL Championship club Coventry City.

Everton are pushing to secure the signature of Viktor Gyokeres before the January transfer window closes. According to Football Insider, the Merseyside club are willing to spend £15 million to land the Coventry forward.

Scouts from Everton have kept a close eye on Viktor Gyokeres over the past few months. They watched him in action for Coventry City on Saturday. The 24-year-old had an impressive outing, as he bagged two assists in his team’s 2-0 win.

The Swedish striker has been in red-hot form in the EFL Championship. Gyokeres has scored twelve goals and created four in the 28 outings so far this season. He has been clinical in front of goal and is the third-highest goal scorer in the ongoing Championship. And the player’s progress has alerted Everton.

The Merseyside club have had a tough time in the 2022/23 Premier League season. They are currently 19th in the points table and will have to do everything in their power to avoid relegation.

Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Newcastle United has left a void in the attack that needs to be taken care of. Gordon completed a £45 million move to Newcastle United on Sunday. And, ever since his transfer, the Toffees have been working day and night to find a suitable replacement.

The relegation-threatened club are willing to spend around half of Gordon’s fee on signing reinforcements. Everton believe that a £15 million fee will be enough to secure his services. The two clubs are in discussion, and there might be a breakthrough soon.

Everton are looking to sign two forwards before the transfer deadline to help them avoid relegation. They want an out-and-out number nine and a pacy player who can play out wide. Southampton’s Che Adams is a part of their potential targets.

The Merseyside club wanted to sign Adams in the summer transfer window, but Southampton were not willing to sell. The Saints are pushing to sign forward Kamaldeen Sulemana from Stade Rennais. If they manage to get it done, they might let Che Adams join Everton.
