Tottenham Hotspur are finally set to complete the signing of Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro in a €45 million deal.

According to eminent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are looking to get the contracts signed for Pedro Porro later today. And a verbal agreement was reached between Spurs and Sporting CP on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the Spanish defender is preparing to travel to London with his agents today and is expected to sign a contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2028. Apparently, the Premier League giants will pay a fee close to €45 million for his services.

Porro has been in magnificent form for Sporting CP this season, scoring three goals and picking up 11 assists across all competitions. The Spaniard will strengthen Tottenham significantly if he manages to adapt to English football quickly.

The right-back position has been an area of major concern for Antonio Conte, with the likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal dropping underwhelming performances on a weekly basis. Meanwhile, summer signing Djed Spence has failed to earn the trust of his manager as well. And Spence might leave Tottenham on loan this month.

Signing a quality full-back was a top priority for Tottenham this month. And Porro could be an important player for them in the coming seasons. The 23-year-old can operate as a winger as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus.

Apart from being a reliable defender, the Spaniard will add a new dimension to their attack going forward. Antonio Conte’s system is usually dependent on quality attacking full-backs, and Porro will have a significant role under the Italian.

Tottenham are looking to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League next season. And it will be interesting to see if the Sporting defender can help them secure a top-four finish now. Spurs have already strengthened their attack with the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal. And Porro will only improve them further.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can bring in more players before the January window closes. The move to the Premier League is a major step up in Porro’s career, and he will be determined to hit the ground running and prove his worth in English football now.
