Sporting CP are interested in signing Hector Bellerin before the transfer deadline as a potential replacement for Pedro Porro.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Sporting CP are eyeing Hector Bellerin as a replacement for Pedro Porro. The struggling Spanish defender is not in Barcelona’s plans for the season and could seek a move to a team where he will have an important role to play.
Hector Bellerin made plenty of efforts to get a move finalised to Barcelona. The right-back had a year left on his Arsenal contract but convinced the Premier League club to terminate his deal. The decision allowed the Catalan giants to sign the Spaniard on a free transfer.
Due to financial troubles at Spotify Camp Nou, Bellerin only signed a one-year deal. Barcelona reportedly remained open to extending his contract if he met certain performance-related criteria. Not only has the right-back been awful since coming here, but he is also no longer a part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans.
The manager has played other players in Bellerin’s position, including left-back Alejandro Balde. And the Barcelona boss could allow a departure before the transfer deadline. Reports from Spain suggested the struggling Barcelona defender was keen to re-join Real Betis and hoped the Andalusian outfit attempted to sign him.
His main intention is to get back to playing regularly and have an important role in the team. Whether Real Betis can sign him could also become a question, but other clubs have keen. Bellerin reportedly rejected a move to Everton, and Sporting CP are now interested.
Tottenham are set to sign Pedro Porro before the transfer deadline, which leaves Sporting short in an important position. The Spaniard has been a key figure for the Portuguese giants this season, and they will certainly look for an urgent replacement.
Bellerin reportedly views this interest as a strong chance to get back to the top level of his game. He might remain open to the move, and much will depend on Sporting’s willingness to sign the struggling Barcelona defender.
With Bellerin out of Xavi’s plans and even frustrated with Barcelona after they offered Marcos Alonso a new deal, the time might be right to move on. Sporting could be a good option, although there could also be late interest from other clubs, including Betis or English clubs.
