Manchester United are reportedly tipped to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer as Erik ten Hag wants a high-profile striker next season.
According to Sport Witness, Victor Osimhen could emerge as Manchester United’s main striker target next season. Erik ten Hag’s side are reportedly tipped to try and sign the Nigerian frontman, as they need a new frontman for next season and beyond.
Manchester United are set to see out this January window rather quietly and begin preparations for next summer. The club hierarchy are already planning a big window after the current season, with Erik ten Hag likely to continue with his squad rebuild.
Last summer, the Red Devils spent significantly to improve the first team. Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Antony all arrived on big moves. Manchester United has decided against spending much in the January window. They only signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley.
The Dutch striker is only on a six-month loan deal, meaning they might go for a high-profile forward in the summer. Several names got mentioned in the media, with Harry Kane emerging as a critical target in recent weeks. Ten Hag would prefer the England captain, who could sign a new deal at Tottenham in the coming months.
French forward Kolo Muani’s name also got a mention recently, but the Eintracht Frankfurt star may cost around €100 million. Manchester United might open their doors for such a considerable outlay, but they may go with a more proven option such as Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen was a key target for many clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, in the summer. Despite speculation, the Nigerian stayed at Napoli and is enjoying a solid season. His 13 goals in Serie A have helped Luciano Spalletti’s side to the summit of the table. They could eventually win the title if the striker keeps up with his form.
Next summer, things could change, and Napoli could demand a significant fee in return. Manchester United are reportedly tipped to sign Osimhen as their new long-term forward option. He will improve the team and bring about balance in a somewhat difficult position.
Beyond Weghorst, Ten Hag only has Anthony Martial, but the Frenchman’s fitness issues keep him out of many games at a stretch. Alternatively, he could use Marcus Rashford there, but the England star is effective in a wide attacking area.
Someone like Osimhen could spearhead Manchester United’s bid for the Premier League title. Napoli had demanded a fee between €100 and €120 million in the summer. That could increase if the 13-goal star keeps up his form for the remainder of the campaign.
Whether Manchester United are willing to pay a hefty sum towards signing the Nigerian remains the question. But, without a doubt, Osimhen would drastically improve the team and make them challengers on multiple fronts.
