Real Madrid considering January move for Fran Garcia

La Liga champions Real Madrid are mulling over re-signing 23-year-old Spanish defender Fran Garcia in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Fran Garcia is the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen. The German outfit might trigger the release clause to sign the Spanish defender. And such a situation has compelled Real Madrid to consider re-signing the Rayo Vallecano left-back this month.

Fran Garcia is a graduate of Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica academy. The 23-year-old spent nearly a decade in Los Blancos’ youth division before turning professional a few years ago. But he could never secure promotion from Real Madrid Castilla to the first team and joined Rayo Vallecano two and a half years ago.

Los Franjirrojos initially signed the Spanish defender on loan from Real Madrid before completing a permanent transfer in July 2021. And Garcia has gone from strength to strength in the last two and a half seasons. The player has turned out over 100 times for Rayo Vallecano, chipping in with three goals and eight assists. And Garcia’s progress has alerted Real Madrid.

Real Madrid might look to sign a left-back this year amid the inconsistencies of Ferland Mendy. The Frenchman has blown hot and cold in the last twelve months, forcing Los Blancos into the market for a left-back. And Fran Garcia has emerged as a top target for Real Madrid.

Recent reports have claimed that the Merengues are close to re-signing the 23-year-old Spanish defender. But that does not seem to be the case, with Bayer Leverkusen entering the chase for the youngster. And the Bundesliga giants are considering triggering Garcia’s release clause this month.

Such a situation has compelled Real Madrid to consider completing a rare January transfer. And since the reigning La Liga champions own 50 per cent of his rights, they will not have to pay €10 million to secure his services. In addition, Real Madrid will likely loan the Spaniard back to Rayo Vallecano for the remainder of the season.

That decision might work out well for all three parties, considering Rayo Vallecano will not have to seek a replacement this month. But it will leave Bayer Leverkusen in the lurch, forcing them into the market for a left-back. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will re-sign the 23-year-old Spanish defender.
