Newcastle United have tabled a third bid worth €16 million for Matheus Franca to test Flamengo’s stance over the attacking midfielder.
As reported by Sport Witness, Newcastle United will make another attempt at signing Matheus Franca. The Magpies have reportedly made a third offer worth €16 million to convince Flamengo to sell. The Brazilian club have decided to stick with their original €20 million demand for the attacking midfielder.
Newcastle United may have switched their attention to young players rather than bringing in established stars in this window. Eddie Howe seems happy with his current squad and their quality while looking to add depth before the market shuts.
Howe looks at several positions, including right back, central, and attacking midfield. Media reports suggested James Maddison was their primary target for the latter. Newcastle may not want to spend heavily on established players this month.
They remain linked with several young, up-and-coming stars. For instance, Flamengo star Joao Gomes is on their list, and now they are chasing his teammate Matheus Franca, the attacking midfielder.
Flamengo have reportedly agreed on an €18 million deal with an unnamed club for Gomes, which could be Liverpool or Newcastle. However, the Brazilian side is reluctant to lose Franca in the same window unless their demands are fully met.
Franca became a player of interest for the Magpies, who consider his talents useful in the current squad. They made a €13 million offer to test Flamengo and followed that up with a €14 million plus €2 million in add-ons. The Brazilian side refused to entertain those proposals, demanding €20 million plus 50% of any future sale.
Newcastle could be expected to meet or come close to the financial asking. The hefty percentage of future sales seems steep and may not resonate well with the Magpies. The third offer is worth €16 million, all upfront. It might tempt Flamengo into considering a sale.
Flamengo believe the 18-year-old is much more valuable than midfielder Gomes. They believe he has the talent to make it big in Europe and want to include the future sale clause. Newcastle might see their latest bid rejected as the Brazilian side will try to stick to their demands.
