Everton are eying up a move for 22-year-old Brazilian winger Tete, who has other suitors from the Premier League.
According to Daily Mail, Everton are keeping tabs on Tete as they eye a move for the 22-year-old Brazilian winger. He is currently on loan at Lyon, but the Toffees will have to negotiate a deal with parent club Shakhtar Donetsk, while other clubs are keen.
Everton are in a mess with their results and boardroom situation. Frank Lampard got the sack in light of the West Ham United defeat, as the Toffees are yet to win a game since September. While the club’s short-term future remains uncertain, they also want to pull off some moves in the transfer market.
The Toffees need to improve in certain playing positions and want to maximise the transfer window to bring in essential players. Chief among them is the need for a new attacker to bolster their goalscoring ranks. A host of players remain linked, but they are far from signing for the club.
Many would have become wary of the ongoing situation at the club and the chances of a potential relegation. Hence, players like Arnaut Danjuma are increasingly attracted to the club as he nears a loan move to Merseyside. There will be no buy option in the contract, which allows the Villarreal attacker to showcase his talents on the Premier League stage.
Others like Anthony Elanga were also linked recently but reportedly got warned against joining the Toffees. The trend might continue with other stars, as Everton are now linked with 22-year-old Brazilian winger Tete.
Tete is a solid talent and is spending the season with Lyon on loan. He has six goals and five assists in 19 games across all competitions, and there are doubts he will prolong his career at the French club. Lyon are moving in a different direction with Laurent Blanc in charge. He reportedly does not see the winger fitting his long-term plans.
Moreover, Lyon are not particularly excited to trigger the £17.5 million buy option in his contract. Hence, Tete’s agent reportedly offered the player to multiple Premier League clubs. Everton and Leicester City have now shown likeness to the player and could approach Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 22-year-old Brazilian winger’s contract ends in December 2023, so Everton will hope to lodge a reasonable offer for Tete. Shakhtar are recouping their losses after the FIFA ruling amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict and will hope to get something from this deal.
Whether Tete prefers to join Everton remains the biggest question, but he would improve their team. Other clubs might be chasing the winger, but Everton and Leicester seem to have the upper hand.
