Everton have opened talks with Manchester United to secure a move for Anthony Elanga in the January transfer window.

As per Football Insider, Everton are interested in Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga and could submit an offer soon. The Swedish international has not had many chances this season at Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s recent turnaround has seen Marcus Rashford being at the forefront. Meanwhile, Antony and Anthony Martial have also chipped in with useful contributions.

The absence of Mason Greenwood was supposed to provide Anthony Elanga with an easy path to the first-team setup. But he hasn’t really grabbed his chances in his outings for quite some time. He became a regular under former manager Ralf Rangnick, but Erik ten Hag has not really called him up regularly.

Everton are struggling to find stability. And their recent loss to Southampton has intensified the need for another forward. Elanga does not boast encouraging numbers. But given a chance, the Manchester United winger can be dangerous at times.

A permanent transfer would not be preferred by Manchester United, and a loan deal with an obligation to buy appears to be the perfect move for Everton, who recently stepped up the efforts to sign the 20-year-old. The arrival of Wout Weghorst has further pushed Elanga to the brink of an exit. And the Toffees could come to the rescue.

They are searching for an alternative to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been pretty injury prone and has not been at his best so far. Elanga can wreak havoc with his sheer pace, and his flexibility will also provide more depth to Frank Lampard whose future is very shaky at the moment.

Further slip-ups could prove to be pretty costly for him, and the former Chelsea manager is trying to save Everton from dropping to the Championship. The Merseysiders managed to escape the relegation scare, But things are not looking bright for them this term.

Manchester United have been in brilliant form, but Erik ten Hag would not want to lose his squad depth as fixtures are piling up ahead. An additional body would be preferable at this crucial juncture. But the emergence of Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho might alter the manager’s mind.
