Chelsea edging closer to Malo Gusto swoop

Chelsea vs FC Noah: Preview and Prediction.

Chelsea are closing in on Malo Gusto and remains keen to add the 19-year-old defender to their squad this month.

According to Calcio Mercato, Malo Gusto could become Chelsea’s latest signing this month as the club stepped up their efforts to bring the 19-year-old defender. The Lyon star was somewhat expected to make a move next summer, but the Blues may approach to sign him now.

Chelsea are having a busy transfer window, and it appears they are not done yet. Todd Boehly is keen to bring in the best talent from around and have already made several high-profile signings to strengthen the squad.

A host of attackers arrived this month alongside centre-back Benoit Badiashile. Chelsea still needs a new right-back to strengthen the position. Reece James remains the first choice in the role, but the England international’s injury troubles have made it hard to trust him this season.

Chelsea also approached Denzel Dumfries but still need to match Inter Milan’s asking price. The Dutchman would have suited their cause well, but there might have been problems when James returned to full fitness. Hence, the Blues remain in the market for an alternative option.

Tottenham target Pedro Porro also emerged on their shortlist, but they might be resigned to losing him to their London rivals. Now, Chelsea have shifted their attention back to Lyon’s Gusto, who could become a viable option in the current window.

Chelsea were reportedly interested in Gusto in November but they prioritised other targets. Those names may not become available for the Blues right now. Hence, the 19-year-old defender would suit their cause perfectly.

Lyon know that they could lose Gusto at some stage. Clubs like Juventus were keen on him and plotted a summer move for the 19-year-old defender. Their hopes could evaporate if Chelsea makes a move this month and take Gusto away from France.

His contract expires in 2024, and Lyon may be open to selling him now when his value is decent. The price tag might fall in the summer, so a move away in January is possible.
