Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad at the end of the season.
According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal were hoping to sign Martin Zubimendi this month. And the Gunners were prepared to pay the €60 million release clause for the 23-year-old midfielder.
However, Zubimendi does not want to leave Real Sociedad midway through the season as they will struggle to bring in a replacement. And Arsenal will launch the offensive for the Spanish international, a target for Barcelona, in the summer.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been a quality player for Real Sociedad, and he has shown the ability to succeed at a top club as well. The opportunity to join a Premier League club will be an attractive idea for the player. And Arsenal are certainly one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Furthermore, Arsenal are currently fighting for the Premier League title and are in a good position to go all the way. If they manage to win the league title this season, they will be an attractive option for most players. And Zubimendi is likely to be tempted to join them.
The young central midfielder has proven himself in La Liga and he will hope to test himself at a higher level now. Playing alongside better players in the Premier League will only accelerate his development and help him fulfil his tremendous potential.
The 23-year-old could partner Thomas Partey at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield and will help the Gunners control games better. Apart from being an outstanding passer, Zubimendi will bring composure, technical ability and press resistance to the Gunners’ midfield.
Mikel Arteta needs to bring in more midfielders to rotate his players and keep them fresh as they compete on all fronts next season. Arsenal clearly have the money to sign the player. And it is fair to assume that they will have no problems triggering his €60 million release clause in the summer.
But the figure has posed a problem for one of his biggest suitors, Barcelona. The Blaugrana view the Spanish international as a long-term successor to Sergio Busquets. But recent reports have claimed that signing the 23-year-old will be impossible for Barcelona.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly a huge admirer of the player, and he could be the ideal manager to get the best out of Zubimendi. The Spaniard has done well to nurture young players at Arsenal so far and he used to be an accomplished midfielder during his playing days as well. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal beat Barcelona to Zubimendi’s signature.
