Arsenal have a €15 million agreement with Real Valladolid for Ivan Fresneda, with the Spanish defensive sensation set to make his choice.
David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed Arsenal have an agreement with Real Valladolid for Ivan Fresneda. The two clubs have come to terms with over a €15 million deal, and the Spanish defensive sensation will make an imminent decision with Borussia Dortmund in the mix.
Arsenal are on the verge of making their third winter signing with the potential arrival of Ivan Fresneda. The Spanish defensive sensation has attracted interest from the Gunners for a considerable period, with his profile considered suitable by Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners’ boss likes a different type of full-back who could invert and provide massive support in midfield. Oleksandr Zinchenko is the prime example of what Arteta likes, and only some can play the role correctly. Ben White is slowly learning the trade of this position, and so is Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arsenal boast two proper players in the right-back duo. But Arteta may want someone he could mould into a star performer for the long run. Ivan Fresneda fits the bill, and the Gunners recently increased their interest.
Arteta may have wanted to sign him only in the summer. But due to rival interest, Arsenal are willing to do a deal now. Newcastle United were also interested in the Spanish defensive sensation but may have bowed out of the race after knowing the player’s preference.
Arsenal have now agreed with Real Valladolid for the defender and will pay a €15 million fee. The move is yet to conclude as there is reported interest from Borussia Dortmund. They have also had a bid accepted for a similar fee.
Fresneda will decide on his next club as Arsenal are confident of sealing a deal for the Spanish defensive sensation. The next few days will prove crucial with this transfer, as Real Sociedad could also request the player to be loaned back for the remainder of the season.
Whether that is feasible for Arsenal remains the question. They may view Fresneda as a replacement for Cedric Soares, who could join Fulham this month. As for the signing, the Spanish defensive sensation is a solid buy and promises a bright future ahead.
