AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo has been offered to Paris Saint-Germain, but Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in the player.
According to a report by Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain have been presented with the opportunity to acquire the services of Nicolo Zaniolo. Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in AS Roma attacker. Any suitor will have to shell out up to €40 million for the Italian international.
Tottenham Hotspur were expected to undergo some overhaul in the January transfer window. But they have not been involved in any kind of transfers so far, with the business end of this window looming large on the horizon.
Arsenal’s swift deal to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion could be a pressure point for Tottenham, as they have long been in the market for creative reinforcements. And Nicolo Zaniolo features prominently on their radar.
The north Londoners have a long-standing interest in the Italian international, and the arrival of Fabio Paratici at the club has further intensified the rumours. This would probably be the best chance for AS Roma to cash in on the player, who has entered the last 18 months of his current contract.
It seems there is no love lost between the club and the player. But things have not gone down well between the two parties. Zaniolo was booed off the pitch when he was called off the pitch against Genoa, and things have taken a sharp turn after that. Roma have placed the player on the transfer market and are ready to sanction his departure if their demands are met.
The player is valued between €30 million and €40 million, and Tottenham would have no harm in placing a formal offer. But PSG have entered the fray, with the 23-year-old being offered to Les Parisiens. The French giants are leading the Ligue 1 standings. But Lens and Marseille are catching up pretty quickly, meaning PSG need some much-needed players to solve their recent crisis.
A loan deal with an obligation to buy has been mooted for Tottenham, but they are yet to agree any deal with the Italian club. Their recent loss to Manchester City laid down the marker for their needs. And it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can beat PSG to Zaniolo’s signature.
