La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating signing 25-year-old Villarreal defender Juan Foyth in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are considering signing the 25-year-old World Cup winner in the summer. But his release clause, worth over €50 million, complicates matters for Los Blancos.
Juan Foyth has come leaps and bounds since joining Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020. The Yellow Submarine initially signed him on a season-long loan deal before completing a permanent transfer in July 2021. And the Argentine international has resurrected a career that was going nowhere at Tottenham.
The 25-year-old was recently a part of Argentina’s squad as they won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But injuries have restricted Foyth to just 11 appearances and 611 minutes of action at the club level this season. But the player’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid will likely look to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Dani Carvajal has endured a regression in the last couple of years following a few fitness issues. In addition, Lucas Vazquez has been inconsistent after initially flourishing as a makeshift right-back.
Meanwhile, Alvaro Odriozola has no future at Real Madrid after barely featuring under Carlo Ancelotti. So Los Blancos will need to invest in a right-back in the summer transfer window. And several players, including Joao Cancelo, have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. But Juan Foyth is also a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions.
The 25-year-old World Cup winner has impressed Ancelotti and Florentino Perez with his displays. And the Merengues are considering launching the offensive for the Argentine international in the summer. But his release clause, worth over €50 million, complicates matters for his suitors, including Real Madrid.
In addition, the Spanish champions might face stiff competition from Barcelona for Foyth. The Catalan giants have pursued the former Tottenham defender for a long time and might prioritise his signing. But spending €50 million might be beyond Barcelona, thus giving Real Madrid a head start in the race to sign the 25-year-old.
