Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Michael Olise in the summer, but Crystal Palace will look to keep him.
According to Daily Mail, Arsenal will make an approach in the summer to sign Crystal Palace star Michael Olise. The emerging French under-21 international is on the radar of many clubs, but the Eagles will work hard to keep him at Selhurst Park.
Michael Olise has enhanced his reputation as an emerging star by scoring a sensational late free-kick against Manchester United midweek. The goal rescued a point for Crystal Palace and dealt a major blow to the Red Devils’ title ambitions.
Olise only joined Crystal Palace 18 months ago from Reading and steadily came into the first-team scene under Patrick Vieira. The French tactician has a major role in his development, as the versatile forward is completely trusted by his manager.
When he arrived from Reading, a reported release clause in his contract would have let clubs sign him for £35 million. Crystal Palace have since negotiated with the player to remove the said clause and will be able to decide his future on their terms.
Due to the emerging French under-21 international’s solid form in his debut Premier League season, many clubs kept tabs on his situation. Luckily for Crystal Palace, nothing substantial materialised in the summer, and they hope to keep him for the long term.
They will also likely lose Wilfried Zaha next summer as a free agent. Allowing two departures in Zaha and Olise will come as a blow for Vieira and his long-term plans for the club. Hence, the Eagles will fight hard to keep Olise at the club amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners are in the market for a top-rated wide attacker. Olise can play on the right wing and as a central attacking midfielder. Vieira has deployed him on the wide right or as a right-sided midfielder.
Mikel Arteta would like to explore more with the player, and Arsenal could make an approach in the summer. The Gunners recently agreed on a move for Leandro Trossard. But before that, they lost out to Chelsea for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Ukrainian international could have become a super investment as Arsenal were ready to pay heavily. Now that they have not spent that money, Arteta might look to invest it in the summer on another player. Olise could become that, and Crystal Palace will remain wary of the situation.
The ball is in Palace’s court about Olise’s future. Moving to a big club, a potential Premier League winner and staying in London could appeal to the French under-21 international. As for the Eagles, they will fight tooth and nail to keep the youngster for as long as they can.
