La Liga heavyweights Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have opened talks over a possible summer move for Yannick Carrasco.
According to Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are discussing a deal for Yannick Carrasco. But the Blaugrana will not sign the 29-year-old wide man this month. Instead, the two La Liga clubs are negotiating a move for the summer transfer window.
Yannick Carrasco has been one of the best wide attackers in La Liga over his two stints with Atletico Madrid. The Belgian international’s first spell with Los Rojiblancos lasted between July 2015 and February 2018. And after a short term in China, he returned to Spain by rejoining Atletico Madrid three years ago.
Since then, the 29-year-old has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Atletico Madrid. And Carrasco has chipped in with four goals and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. But the player’s spell with the Colchoneros might end in the summer, with Barcelona interested in him.
Barcelona will lose Memphis Depay in the coming days, with the Dutchman moving across La Liga. Interestingly, the 28-year-old is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid. And Barcelona initially considered signing Carrasco as a replacement for Depay this month. But the Colchoneros do not want to lose the Belgian wide man midway through the season.
So Barcelona might prioritise signing Marcelo Brozovic after establishing contact with the Croat’s representatives. And they will then focus on bolstering the offensive unit in the summer transfer window. And with Ferran Torres and Raphinha facing uncertain futures at Spotify Camp Nou, it behoves Barcelona to scour the market for an attacker.
Carrasco is thus an option worth considering for Barcelona. The versatile Belgian international can play anywhere on the left flank. And his creative abilities will add a facet to Barcelona’s gameplay. The Catalan giants have now initiated discussions with Atletico Madrid over a possible summer move.
Toni Juanmarti has claimed that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have already discussed the price tag. And with Premier League clubs also interested in the 29-year-old, Barcelona will need to be efficient. So it will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day.
