Newcastle United ready to make substantial offer to sign Malo Gusto

Newcastle United might soon present an “important offer” to sign 19-year-old Lyon defender Malo Gusto, a target for Barcelona and Real Madrid.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Malo Gusto is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are ready to propose a substantial offer for the Lyon right-back. And the 19-year-old is also a target for La Liga heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Malo Gusto is one of the brightest young prospects to have emerged in French football in the last few years. A graduate of Lyon’s academy, the teenage prodigy has been with Les Gones since 2016. And after making his debut in October 2021, he is now a regular for the first team.

The 19-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months. And Gusto has turned out over 50 times thus far for Lyon, chipping in with six assists. The Frenchman’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Newcastle United being his prospective suitors.

Barcelona will need to invest in a right-back in the summer amid Hector Bellerin’s inconsistencies. The Spaniard has become a bit-part player for Barcelona after failing to impress Xavi Hernandez. And he will likely depart from Spotify Camp Nou as a free agent at the end of the season. Gusto has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.

As for Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal’s advancing age has left Carlo Ancelotti in a spot of bother. The veteran Spaniard has not been at his best for some time. And with Lucas Vazquez blowing hot and cold, Real Madrid will need to invest in a right-back this year. Gusto is thus a top candidate to bolster Los Blancos’ squad, with the Merengues front-runners to sign him.

Newcastle United recently emerged in the race to sign the 19-year-old Lyon right-back. And the Magpies are ready to make a substantial offer to sign the French prodigy. Newcastle United will look to sign a right-back to be Kieran Trippier’s understudy. And with the Englishman well into his thirties, Gusto can initially learn the ropes before becoming the first-choice right-back.

Apart from Newcastle United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham are also keen on signing Gusto. And it will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old leaves Lyon in the coming months.
