Arsenal admire Ivan Fresneda but could postpone any possible move for the 18-year-old Spanish wonderkid for the summer window.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal may look to postpone any move for Ivan Freneda until the summer. Many other clubs are in contention to sign the 18-year-old Spanish wonderkid from Real Valladolid, but the Gunners’ interest could spark a decision for the young right-back.
Arsenal are in the market for players that can improve their current squad and pushes them toward the Premier League title. Many players have been linked with a move this month, as Mikel Arteta only wants the right options to join the squad.
They recently lost out to Chelsea for priority targets Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix this month. Arteta remains unfazed by those and continues to look for players who would improve his squad. First-team players are essential for Arsenal, which could make them rethink signing young stars for development.
One of their targets in the latter category includes 18-year-old Spanish wonderkid Ivan Fresneda. The Real Valladolid star is having his breakthrough season in La Liga and is considered necessary as the club continues to fight a relegation battle.
Fresneda’s performances for Valladolid have attracted plenty of interest from Premier League sides. There is also considerable admiration from La Liga’s most prominent teams, Barcelona and Real Madrid. He was part of the Madrid academy, which could tempt him over a return.
However, the lure of the Premier League may prove vital as clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen. There are others, like Newcastle United and Arsenal, with the Gunners coming to the fore in the last few days. While there’s no specific need for a new right back at the club, Fresneda will be considered a bright prospect.
Arsenal will likely enter the market for a new right back if Cedric Soares departs. His expected move to Fulham has stalled for now, which may force Arteta to change his plans with Fresneda. The Gunners reportedly want to push any activity for the 18-year-old Spanish wonderkid until the summer.
For the same to happen, they would have to keep the player in check and have a discussion with his representative. Valladolid want him to stay at the club for now, as he is considered vital in their relegation battle. Interested suitors believe a fee of around £10-15 million would prove enough, but he may go for a bit more.
As for Arsenal, they would ideally like to wait until the summer to move for the right back. Cedric will certainly depart around that period, if not this month, and there will be room for a new addition. Fresneda will look to continue his development and is not expected to be thrust into the starting lineup soon.
