Arsenal could have a chance to sign Declan Rice if they go on to win the Premier League this season.

Dean Jones on Give Me Sport thinks Arsenal may have a higher chance of signing Declan Rice if they win the Premier League. The Gunners are reportedly interested in the England international, with West Ham United likely to open their doors in the summer.

Declan Rice will become one of the coveted midfield targets for some of the top clubs in England when the season ends. The England international has shown that he is destined to play for a big side. Rice is ready to leave West Ham United to further his career.

For a long time, Chelsea seemed like his ideal destination. There’s a long history between the Blues and Rice, for the England international was part of the Cobham academy. He looked primed to join some of his old friends at Stamford Bridge, but things might have changed a bit.

For one, Chelsea are having a terrible season, as they are tenth in the Premier League table. If Graham Potter’s side continues with their dismal displays, soon the Blues might be out of contention for European places. At present, they are nowhere near a Champions League place.

Hence, Rice could become wary of joining them and could open the doors for a team like Arsenal to swoop in. The Gunners are reportedly interested in the England international. They could make a significant offer in the summer. The manager is reportedly considering the midfielder as a marquee signing and may well approach him.

Mikel Arteta reportedly gave his green light to sign Rice in the summer. Dean Jones insists Arsenal will have a higher chance to sign the midfielder if they are to win the Premier League.

He said, “So, it’s not impossible that they go for Declan Rice, and they’ll be in a really strong position if they were to win the league.”

Rice dreams of playing in the Champions League and may prefer to join a side in the competition. Chelsea are also considering Moises Caicedo as their primary midfield target. This is a hint they are willing to look away from the England international.

Arsenal winning the league improves their stature within the corridors of English football. If that happens, the Gunners would undoubtedly want to strengthen the midfield position with a big signing and go for glory again.
