La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Yannick Carrasco on loan from Atletico Madrid this month.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Yannick Carrasco is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the Atletico Madrid wide man on loan in the January transfer window. And they might take advantage of Los Rojiblancos’ interest in Memphis Depay.
Yannick Carrasco has been a consistent performer for Atletico Madrid throughout his two stints with Atletico Madrid. The Belgian international’s first spell lasted between July 2015 and February 2018. He then spent two years in China before rejoining Atletico Madrid in January 2020.
The 29-year-old has been a rare bright spot in a difficult season thus far for Atletico Madrid. And Carrasco has chipped in with four goals and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. But the experienced wide man has only 18 months left on his contract, with his situation alerting Barcelona.
Barcelona will resort to the loan market to bolster the squad in the January transfer window, if at all. And amid uncertainties surrounding Memphis Depay’s future, the Blaugrana will look for a replacement. Several attackers have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But Barcelona cannot re-sign Aubameyang this month due to FIFA and RFEF rules. So Carrasco has emerged as a viable target, even though is not a like-for-like alternative to Aubameyang. And Barcelona will look to sign the Atletico Madrid wide man on loan in the January transfer window. And the Blaugrana might look to take advantage of Atletico Madrid’s interest in Depay.
The Dutch attacker is closing in on joining Los Rojiblancos this month. And Barcelona will likely aim to use the situation to bring Carrasco to Atletico Madrid without getting into Financial Fair Play trouble. But Wissam Ben Yedder is another alternative if a move for the 28-year-old Belgian international does not materialise.
For now, Carrasco has emerged as a potential target for the January transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can secure the services of the Atletico Madrid wide man on loan this month.
