Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri could be on his way to the English Championship, with Watford keen to sign him on loan.
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Watford are considering a loan approach for Manchester United prospect Facundo Pellistri. The Uruguayan international recently impressed as he made a long-awaited appearance against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
The 21-year-old has had an underwhelming development at the club since his arrival from Penarol. But his recent performance could lay the path for a productive future. The winger and his entourage will have a meeting with Erik ten Hag to decide the future course of action.
A couple of loan spells at Alaves followed by some injury problems halted Pellistri’s growth. But the player has hit the right chord and could be sanctioned a temporary departure to hone his skills further. Watford are still in contention for a promotional berth, and Slaven Bilic wants to add more reinforcements to cope with the pressure mounting on them.
Erik ten Hag heaped praises on the winger following his club debut. The Manchester United bosas said, “I see a future in him and he is doing really well and we have to see what is the best.”
“He’s progressing, also against Everton [a behind-closed-doors game] I was really happy with his performance, I was happy with his performance in the World Cup, his progress is really good. He’s come on and had an effect so that’s the next step. I say well done, better, and keep going.”
Manchester United will not entertain the idea of a permanent transfer, as they will prefer to test the player in the Premier League at least for a full season. Erik ten Hag is known for his work ethic with young players. And someone like Pellistri could follow in the footsteps of Antony, who is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents to have emerged in recent years.
Watford would be hoping to secure his service for the remainder of the campaign as injuries are piling up for the Premier League promotion hopefuls. And Bilic wants some readymade solution as they are building their promotional challenge. Meanwhile, Pellistri wants to leave Manchester United permanently.
